- Broiled vs Boiled:
broiled: as a verb: to cook (meat or fish) by exposure to direct, intense radiant heat. (RPW: but NOT having anything to do with evaporating water)
boiled: Heat (a liquid) to the temperature at which it bubbles and turns to vapor OR (something) to the heat of boiling liquid, in particular cook (food) by immersing in boiling water. as a noun: the temperature at which a liquid bubbles and turns to vapor, an outdoor meal at which seafood is boiled. Used in:
boil away: boil until the container is empty
boil something down: reduce the volume of a liquid by boiling
boil over (of a liquid): flow over the sides of the container in boiling
- Mute vs Moot:
A mute point is one that can't speak.
A moot point is one that doesn't matter any more.
